Vasyl Derevinskyi is doctor of history, professor of the Department of Political Sciences and Law of the Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture. Researcher of the history of the struggle of Ukrainians for personal and national freedom in the 20th century, as well as national politics and biography. 

He published a number of books about Vyacheslav Chornovol, a well-known Ukrainian public-politician and statesman, editor of underground publications, leader of the largest Ukrainian National Democratic Party in the 1990s, political prisoner of the Russian-communist regime in the 1960s-80s.  

Since 2013, he has been organizing the scientific forum “Chornovol Readings”, which was started in honor of Vyacheslav Chornovol and is a kind of platform where various topics of the historical past and present are discussed. As a result of the fact that Russia’s large-scale war against Ukraine began in February 2022, it was not possible to hold another scientific forum “Chornovil readings” under the theme “The press as a weapon against the press”. Participated in the organization of various scientific conferences. 

Guarantor of the educational program of the third (educational and scientific) level of higher education (PhD) in specialty 032 “History and Archeology” of Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture since 2016. The program is licensed and accredited by the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education (Ukraine). 

Academic supervisor of 5 graduate students. The PhD candidate successfully defended his dissertation. 

He was a member of the specialized academic council K 26.126.01 for the defense of dissertations for obtaining the scientific degree of candidate of historical sciences, which operated at the National Research Institute of Ukrainian Studies in 2015–2017, acted as an official opponent during the defense of dissertations of candidates of the degree of candidate of sciences. 

Member of the editorial boards of scientific publications: “Ukrainian Science: Past, Present, Future” (2014), “Scientific Bulletin of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine” (2016–2019), “Bulletin of the Kyiv National Linguistic University. Series “History, economy, philosophy” (2022-2023). 

Member of the National Union of Local Historians of Ukraine.
