Diana Hryniuk – Ph.D. assistant professor at the Department of Regional Studies and Tourism of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine. She is the author and co-author of over 130 scientific and educational articles. 

Dr. Diana is an associate member of the National Tourism Organization of Ukraine and a member of the British Association for Slavonic & East European Studies (BASEES). She is also аn expert National research foundation of Ukraine, a member of the Civic Union «Ukrainian Tourist Guides Association», the Geographical Society of Ukraine, and the “Ukrainian Association of Professors and Researchers of European Integration” (APREI). Diana has participated in international and domestic research and applied projects, conferences and congresses, roundtables, and the development of online courses. She is a member of the scientific community “Science at risk”. Coordinator of the “Saving science during war” direction of the “Science at risk” (2022-2023) project with the support of the Department of Press, Education and Culture of the US Embassy in Ukraine, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation and with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the National Research Foundation. In the process of scientific research, a white paper was created under her coordination (https://scienceatrisk.org/whitepaper/preserving-science-during-wartime).  

Managing partner (coordinator of volunteers) of the “Standby Ukraine” project of the company TOP PROJECT, 2022. Joined with the aim of free digitization of as many objects of material heritage of Ukraine as possible, which are under threat as a result of the war (https://standbyukraine.com.ua/).  

Besides, she took part in projects of Erasmus+, USAID, BASEES and other. Twice nominated for the All-Ukrainian competition “Young Scientist of the Year” based on the results of scientific activity in 2022 in the nominations: Geography (certificate No. 2885), Tourism (certificate No. 3094). Diana was аcademic supervisor of the student winner of the international startup competition “TourSystemUkrChallenge” in the direction “Start-up. Hospitality” – Rudneva Anastasia (IV course of the specialty 242 Tourism), who took 1st place with a startup on the topic “Cross-platform application for inclusive and barrier-free tourism in Kyiv as a challenge of the times – “Inclusive Hospitality Kyiv”. 

Spheres of research activities: tourismology, historical tourism, museum heritage, regional geography and local history, volunteer tourism, virtual tourism and digitization of cultural heritage. She is interested in the routes of Memory and Heroes of Ukraine, the Chornobyl exclusion zone, development of academic content on virtual tourism and volunteer tourism using digital technologies during the war, Gender Studies, patriotic education of youth, modernization of the educational system of Ukraine, tourism in the regions of the world and Ukraine.

  • 2004-2008 Ukraine Bachelor in economic and social geography, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Kyiv, Ukraine. Received a basic higher education in the direction of “Geography” and received a bachelor’s degree in geography.

Teaching courses: geosystem research, digital technology in tourism, volunteer tourism, natural processes and patterns, organization of animation in tourism, tourism policy, certification of services in tourism and resort activities, professional and corporate ethics, transport services in tourism.
