CFA | CEFRES Residential Fellowships for Ukrainian Researchers in Humanities and Social Sciences

The French Center for Research in Humanities and Social Sciences (CEFRES) in close collaboration with the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs (MEAE), the French National Research Center (CNRS SHS) as well as the Institute of Contemporary History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚSD AV ČR) and Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ÚDU AV ČR) launches a program of residential fellowships in Prague dedicated to Ukrainian researchers in humanities and social sciences.

Duration: from 14 days to 2 months at CEFRES in Prague
Suggested periods: March 1-May 31 or September 1-December 15, 2024
Funding: 2 000 € / month (prorata temporis for shorter periods)
Housing: Offered by CEFRES in collaboration with the Czech Academy of Sciences’ Institutes of Contemporary History and of Art History
Deadline for submission of applications: January 31, 2024

Objective of the program

The goal of the new program is to offer the recipients of the non-residential fellowships comfortable conditions for developing research goal, accessing resources (archives, libraries, scientific events…)  in Prague and strengthening collaborations and contacts developed in the frame of the nonresidential fellowships program.

An envelope of 10 000 € total funded by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research (MESR) through CNRS SHS will finance research stays in Prague of the 2023 and 2024 CEFRES non-residential fellows; in addition, they will also be offered free housing in the premises of the Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences, financed by CEFRES and the Institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

Eligibility 

The 32 beneficiaries of the 2023 and 2024 CEFRES non-residential fellowships in Humanities and Social Sciences are the only candidates invited to apply for a residential stay at CEFRES in addition to their non-residential fellowship during the Spring or Fall semester 2024.

Application

To apply, please submit (in English or French) to claire.madl@cefres.cz:

  • A project for the stay at CEFRES (max. 2 pages), including: the aims and inputs of the research you would like to carry out in Prague; resources you would like to access and/or collaborations you would like to develop during your stay.
  • A brief letter of motivation (max. 1 page), including the proposed duration of your stay (between 15 days and 2 months).

  • February 1-15, 2024 Evaluation of the applications by a Committee of experts
  • February 15, 2024 Publication of the results
  • March 1-May 31, 2024 First period of research stays
