Ivanna Tsar est chercheuse au département de stylistique, de culture linguistique et de sociolinguistique de l’Institut de la langue ukrainienne de l’Académie nationale des sciences d’Ukraine (groupe de sociolinguistique) depuis novembre 2017. Elle est titulaire d’un doctorat en sciences philologiques et dirige le Conseil des jeunes scientifiques de l’Institut. Tsar a étudié à l’Université nationale Ivan Franko de Lviv et a entrepris des études de troisième cycle à l’Institut pour la langue ukrainienne de l’Académie nationale des sciences d’Ukraine.

Ses intérêts scientifiques comprennent la sociolinguistique, la psycholinguistique, le langage des jeunes, la parole orale spontanée, le comportement linguistique, la politique linguistique, l’analyse des situations linguistiques, les processus d’adaptation linguistique des jeunes dans une ville bilingue et les changements de code.

Dans son département, elle a participé aux projets de recherches suivants : « Conditions territoriales et socioculturelles du fonctionnement de la langue ukrainienne » (2017-2020), « L’ukrainien en tant que langue d’État en interaction avec les autres langues d’Ukraine » (2021), « La langue ukrainienne en tant que facteur de consolidation de la société ukrainienne » (2017-2021), « Dynamique de la situation linguistique en Ukraine pendant et après la guerre » (2023-2024).

Actuellement, Mme Tsar recueille et analyse les biographies langagières individuelles de jeunes de différentes régions d’Ukraine, entre autres de personnes déplacées à l’intérieur du pays. Son projet vise à découvrir comment le comportement linguistique des jeunes Ukrainiens a changé en temps de guerre. En outre, elle étudie les changements dans l’identité et la conscience linguistiques des jeunes pendant la guerre russo-ukrainienne.
