Dopad environmentálních krizí na mezinárodní právo

Výzkumná osa 2 – Normy a transgrese

Kontakt: arthur.thevenet(@)cefres.cz

Životní prostředí je v právních vědách novým pojmem. Protože je součástí věd o člověku, neuniklo právu, že se v průběhu staletí vyvíjelo a odráželo hlavní problémy, kterým lidstvo čelí.

Z právního hlediska začaly mezinárodní texty zohledňovat ochranu životního prostředí v 70. a 80. letech 20. století (Stockholmská deklarace, Montrealský protokol, Rámcová úmluva OSN o změně klimatu).

Nicméně činy poškozující životní prostředí v mezinárodním měřítku dosud nejsou jednoznačně trestány. Problematika trestného činu ekocidy, uznaného pouze v desítce států, se na mezinárodní úrovni dosud neobjevila a není zahrnuta do kategorie mezinárodních trestných činů uznaných Mezinárodním trestním soudem.

CEFRES webinars for Ukraine

CEFRES webinars for Ukraine

Russia’s invasion of Ukraine marks the return of war to Europe. Although the war dates back to the 2014 armed conflict in Donbas, with the war of aggression against Ukraine, it is now taking on an unprecedented scale. This war is also fought in the field of information and interpretation, posing major challenges for the humanities and social sciences. Located in the heart of Central Europe directly affected by the war, CEFRES is hosting a series of webinars dedicated to the analysis of the war and its effects in the region from the position of humanistic and social scientific inquiry.

Coordination: Jérôme Heurtaux (Director of CEFRES), Michèle Baussant (CNRS-CEFRES), Ronan Hervouet (CEFRES).

Webinar 1

The challenges of hosting refugees from Ukraine in Central Europe

Date: Tuesday, 22nd March 2022, 12:00 – 13:30 (CET)
Location: online: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83104476667 (in case of any problems, write to cefres@cefres.cz)
Language: English

A Webinar organized in partnership with the GDR “Connaissance de l’Europe médiane”.

On the front line in hosting refugees from the war in Ukraine, the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are facing major challenges. How are they responding to this unprecedented demand for hospitality? Which actors (governments, local authorities, NGOs, etc.) are involved, and what are their resources and capacities? How does this new wave of Ukrainian migration differ from the previous ones? What are the contours of the solidarity shown by Central European societies? This webinar offers a comparative perspective by bringing together different experts to discuss the situation of Ukrainian refugees in Central and Eastern Europe (Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Romania).

With :

  • Dr. Olena Babakova, freelance journalist, an expert on Ukrainian migration to Poland.
  • Prof. MUDr. Vladimir Krčméry DrSc. academic, physicist, founder of St. Elisabeth Private University of Health and Social Work in Bratislava
  • Dr Ondřej Kopečný, analyst, STEM – Institute of Empirical Research (Prague).
  • Dr. Anemona Constantin, political scientist, a post-doctoral researcher at CEFRES.

The staging and reception of Samuel Beckett’s theatre in France, Germany and the Czech Republic after the fall of the Berlin Wall

Research Area 1 – Displacements, “Dépaysements” and Discrepancies: People, Knowledge and Practices

Contact : alice.clabaut.billier@gmail.com

My dissertation focuses on “the staging and reception of Samuel Beckett’s theatre in France, Germany and the Czech Republic after the fall of the Berlin Wall”. I am doing a joint thesis between Charles University and Sorbonne University (cotutelle contract).

My research aims to establish an aesthetic-political inventory of the staging and reception of Samuel Beckett’s plays in France, in Germany and in the Czech Republic since the playwright’s death. Beckett passed away in December 1989, one month after the fall of the Berlin Wall. The international comparison questions the consequences of the Cold War on the production and reception of Beckett’s plays. The three countries I am interested in faced the experience of the Iron Curtain very differently. Whilst Beckett’s work has always been highly praised in France, it was strictly censored in East Germany. While the Czechs used Waiting for Godot as a political argument during the revolution against the USSR, the French and West Germans regarded Beckett’s theatre as a revolutionary, yet philosophically and literarily, work.

Considering these differences, I discuss the extent to which aesthetic choices provide a critical prism through which various aspects of Beckett’s poetics can be emphasised. On the one hand, I point out how Beckett’s theatre highlights, in many ways, not only European traumas, left over from the Second World War and the Cold War, but also contemporary traumas. On the other hand, I observe the changing aesthetic choices in the productions, from the traditional performances inherited from Roger Blin to the most original ones, testifying to the inexhaustible importance of Beckett’s theatre.
