Niya Metodieva – Výzkum a CV

The “Children” of Socialism: The Shaping of Youth and the Building of a Socialist Society in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria (1944–1968)

This thesis aims to analyze the construction of socialist society in the People’s Republic of Bulgaria “through” (S. Maza) the issue of youth, from the coup d’état of September 9, 1944, which brought to power the Communist-led coalition of the Fatherland Front, until 1968. By historicizing the construction of the category of “youth,” it proposes to examine the evolution of the sociopolitical boundaries that governed the multiple meanings attached to the notion of “socialist society.” In doing so, she analyzes, in a process-oriented and situated manner, the transformation of the mechanisms of integration and exclusion within this society under construction, the principles according to which they were constituted, and the way in which different groups were thus reconfigured.

She develops a socio-historical methodology rooted in the “critical turn” of the Annales school, which seeks to move beyond the supposed dichotomy between ideology and practice, between representation and action, by proposing a practical history of categories. From a dual methodological perspective, she seeks to understand the co-construction between communist power and socialist society, which requires taking all historical actors “seriously.” Thus, the inquiry unfolds on three levels: first, it examines the construction of categories at the political level; then, their negotiation at the institutional level (high schools and universities) and the potential “controversies” arising from them; and finally, it explores how social trajectories and lived experiences were transformed by the evolution of governance practices. The cross-referencing of political sources (archives of the Bulgarian Communist Party, the Youth Union, biographies, police records) with archives from the Ministry of Public Education (reports, expulsions, documents relating to purges in high schools and universities) and interviews allows for a fresh perspective on socialist construction and the experiences of young people, with a particular emphasis on the issue of repression.

More broadly, the theis, which follows a traditional chronological framework (the postwar period, Stalinization, and de-Stalinization), examines the conceptions of society and social change produced by Bulgarian society and the socialist state through its population policy. The objectification and construction of different “generations,” as well as the production of homogeneous visions of youth, allow us to question the possibility of speaking of “socialist governmentality” but also to situate socialist policy within a longer-term local perspective linking youth and nation. The temporal boundaries allow for a comparison of the experiences of different cohorts (those born around the 1920s and those of the 1940s) against the backdrop of the growing institutionalization of “youth.”

Michaela Banszelová

Absolventka oboru Mezinárodní politika a diplomacie na Vysoké škole ekonomické v Praze a postgraduálního double degree MBA studia na Francouzsko-českém institutu řízení (IFTG) tamtéž. Celý svůj dosavadní profesní život strávila v oblasti vzdělávání a kulturní spolupráce, zejména na 1. lékařské fakultě UK a Francouzském institutu v Praze.

V CEFRES zastává od ledna 2026 pozici generální tajemnice.

Romain Tiquet – Výzkum a CV

je historik, svůj titul obdržel na Humboldtově univerzitě v Berlíně. Od roku 2019 je výzkumným pracovníkem CNRS (sekce 35) v Institutu afrických studií (Institut des mondes africains). Zabýval se historií bezpečnostních složek  v Burkině Faso a ve své disertační práce následně zkoumal mobilizací pracovní síly v (post)koloniálním Senegalu. Od roku 2019 se věnuje historii šílenství v západní Africe a vede projekt ERC „Governing Madness in West Africa” (MadAf 2021-2026): https://madaf.hypotheses.org/.

Od ledna 2026 bude spolupracovat s francouzským historikem a afrikanistou Silvestrem Trnovcem (SAV) na novém projektu s názvem Kolonizátor bez kolonií? (Česko)slovenská historie a francouzské koloniální impérium v Africe, 18.–počátek 20. století. Tento projekt je realizován v rámci programu TANDEM SAV-CNRS 2026-2027 a zkoumá historické vazby mezi československým prostorem a francouzským koloniálním impériem v Africe.

Silvester Trnovec – Výzkum & CV

Silvester Trnovec je historik a afrikanista na Ústavu orientalistiky Slovenské akademie věd. Jeho výzkum se zaměřuje především na proměny afrických společností v západní a severní Africe v 19. a 20. století v kontextu francouzského kolonialismu. Řídí také mezinárodní projekt Fontes Historiae Africanae / Sources for the History of Africa pod záštitou Mezinárodní unie akademií v Bruselu, který se věnuje vydávání výzkumných edic pramenů k africkým dějinám.

V současné době se zabývá výzkumem obrazu Afriky ve slovenské společnosti a kultuře v 19. a 20. století, přičemž se zaměřuje zejména na vznik koloniálních stereotypů v kontextu, kde přímý kolonialismus nebyl přítomný.

Od ledna 2026 bude spolupracovat s francouzským historikem a afrikanistou Romainem Tiquetem (CNRS) na novém projektu s názvem Kolonizátor bez kolonií? (Česko)slovenská historie a francouzské koloniální impérium v Africe, 18.–počátek 20. století. Ali Al-Moussaoui – Výzkum a CV

“Domácí archivy vysídlení: paměť, jazyk a neformální výroba knih arménského a palestinského obyvatelstva a libanonských žen”

Výzkumná osa 1: Přemístění, vykořenění, odchýlení: lidé, vědění, praktiky

Ali Al Moussaoui je výzkumníkem v oboru kognitivní vědy o jazyce, titul získal na Univerzitě v Nové Gorici (UNG) ve Slovinsku. Jeho výzkumné zájmy zahrnují bilingvismus, pragmatiku, psycholingvistiku, jazykové povědomí a identitu, jazykovou politiku, analýzu jazykových situací, procesy jazykové adaptace, dědičný jazyk, přepínání kódů, analýzu diskurzu, překlad a aplikovanou lingvistiku.

V CEFRESu plánuje realizovat výzkumný projekt s názvem Domácí archivy vysídlení: paměť, jazyk a neformální knihařství mezi arménského a palestinského obyvatelstva a libanonských žen. Výzkum se týká trendů v oblasti paměti, diaspory, feminismu a neformální tvorby knih praktikované marginalizovanými komunitami v Libanonu, konkrétně palestinským a arménským obyvatelstvem, a zejména ženami. Cílem je odhalit způsoby, jakými výše uvedené praktiky fungují jako účinné nástroje při vytváření paměti, vyjadřování identity a překonávání sociálních a kulturních obtíží. Výzkum objasní narativy, používané jazyky a různé formy neformálního šíření informací, které obě komunity využívají k zaznamenávání svých příběhů a předávání svých zkušeností. Výzkum bude využívat multimetodický kvalitativní přístup, který kombinuje etnografický terénní výzkum s textovou, vizuální a diskurzivní analýzou.

Tento výzkum je součástí širšího projektu s názvem “Papírové vazby: Tvořit knihy pro příbuzné, přátele a sebe sama v současné Evropě a na Blízkém východě,”, který je součástí programu TANDEM AV ČR–CNRS. Ve spolupráci s Giedrė Šabasevičiūtė (AV ČR) a Hélène Martinelli (ENS Lyon) bude zkoumat, jak knihařské praktiky a nekomerční vydavatelství formují vztahy, vyjadřují identitu a reagují na politické a technologické změny.
