Isabelle Haynes est doctorante à la Faculté des sciences sociales de l’Université Charles de Prague, sous la direction du Michal Smetana. Sa thèse, Expliquer les variations transnationales du soutien public au principe de la défense collective dans les États membres de l’OTAN, porte sur les facteurs qui influencent la volonté des citoyens de défendre des États alliés.
Ses recherches font partie du projet MICROCODE, financé par le Conseil européen de la recherche (ERC), qui étudie les microfondations de la défense collective. Afin d’analyser les différences entre les pays ainsi que les attitudes des citoyens à l’égard des engagements de défense collective, elle utilise une approche méthodologique mixte combinant enquêtes quantitatives, études de cas, groupes de discussion (focus groups) et entretiens.
Son travail porte actuellement sur la Finlande, la Norvège et l’Islande dans la région nordique, ainsi que sur l’Albanie et le Kosovo dans les Balkans. En étudiant la manière dont les citoyens perçoivent les obligations de défense collective et évaluent leur soutien à ces engagements dans différents contextes politiques et sécuritaires, ses recherches contribuent aux travaux sur l’opinion publique, les alliances internationales et les attitudes envers la défense. Elles visent également à éclairer les débats contemporains sur la crédibilité et la résilience des alliances de sécurité dans un contexte international marqué par le retour des enjeux de défense collective.
